Savvy environmental designers and civic entrepreneurs know that Los Angeles has recently jumped onto the map as a bicycle-friendly city, with new bicycle infrastructure projects around Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Santa Monica employing urban design firms all over the region. Founded in Minneapolis in 2007, ARTCRANK has already exhibited in Portland, San Francisco, Austin, New York, Denver, and London, and is coming to Los Angeles looking to celebrate the city’s budding romance with the bicycle: “Los Angeles has always been a beacon for creative people…But even two years ago, nobody would’ve thought of it as a big bike town,” said ARTCRANK founder Charles Youel in a press release announcing the event. “We can’t wait to see how that comes through in the posters that our L.A. artists are creating for the show.”
The show will feature hand-made, bike-inspired posters by local artists, with limited edition posters available for sale with proceeds benefitting L.A. Streetsblog. For more about the ARTCRANK passion for art and bikes, there’s a video available here that makes their case.
