From time to time, we like to update you on developments with the AIA|LA, one of our industry partners. As we head into summer, they have a lot going on. From events and seminars to deadlines for awards, you’ll want to mark your calendar to be sure you won’t miss anything.
First off, be sure to register for the Design Awards if you haven’t already—the deadline is May 30; entries are due August 7. Categories open include the AIA|LA Design Awards: Built Projects, the Next LA Awards: UNbuilt Projects and the Cultural Affairs Commission Design Awards.
At the end of this week (May 23), there’s a great Pro Dev Key Legal Principals for the Architect seminar on The Meaning of “Standard of Care,” Indemnity in Construction Contracts, and Risk Management. It’s a 60 minute presentation with an additional Q-and-A session that will teach attendees about the basis for the standard of care, how the standard of care is applied in negligence claims lawsuits, what indeminty and the duty to defend means in their contracts and how to minimize risk in their contracts.
For design professionals serious about becoming architects, there’s a bootcamp of sorts coming up next week. The 2014 AIA|LA Emerging Professional Series :: Not Licensed Yet: SUPER NotLY Classes will be presented by AIA|LA and the USC School of Architecture over four days . If you’re not licesnsed, make it a priority to attend these free classes to get you in shape for licensing exams.
Next month promises some big events too. Topping the list are the Restaurant Design Awards (this year marks their 10th anniversary) at Dwell on Design. Voting also opens today for the Peoples’ Choice Awards so make sure you cast your vote for your favorite design. For more information on any of these, plus details on many more tours, seminars and other events, be sure to visit the AIA|LA’s calendar page.
We hope to see you there!
