Event: A Star of Mexian Architecture

Form Tat BilbaoTatiana Bilbao, one of the best architects in Mexico, will present her work in a public lecture at the Museum of Contemporary Art (250 S Grand Avenue, Los Angeles) on Wednesday March 15th at 7.30pm. Presented by the Otis College of Art and Design, it’s a highlight of the Año de Mexico. Admission is free but you should call 310-665-6867 to reserve a seat and attend the reception that follows. I met Tatiana at her office in Mexico City last week and was greatly impressed by the range of her work, from creative social housing in the province of Michoacán and the French city of Lyon, as well as a university building in Monterrey and a cultural center in Spain. As Mexico sheds its macho image women architects are flourishing, winning awards and major commissions. Tatiana’s passion for innovative, sustainable architecture is inspiring, and it’s infused by a deep sense of humanity.—Michael Webb
