About the Restaurant Design Awards:

The AIA|LA’s Restaurant Design Awards (RDA) honor excellence in restaurant design. The competition is open to all individuals and practices with both restaurant owners and architects/designers invited to submit. Either the project itself must be located in the United States or the submitting individual/firm must be US-based. Submissions are accepted in three main categories: restaurants, cafés/bars and lounges/nightclubs. The annual RDA Ceremony recognizes both Jury Award Winners as well as People’s Choice Award Winners, as selected by votes collected from the general public on the AIA|LA website.

Registration forms must be received by 4:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY

The AIA/LA Restaurant Design Awards are open to all individuals and practices (owners & architects/designers can equally submit entries for consideration) for projects located in the United States and to US-based individuals and practices for projects outside of the USA.

ENTRY CATEGORIES

Entrants must indicate the category under which they would like to be considered:
  Restaurants
  Cafes/Bars
  Lounges/Nightclubs

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

• Registration forms must be received by 4:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011.
• Upon receipt of this Registration form, each project will be emailed an entry number and submission form, along with the submittal deadline.
• The restaurant, cafe/bar or lounge/nightclub must have been completed in the last four years (since Jan. 1, 2007).
• The restaurant, cafe/bar or lounge/nightclub must be, or have been, open to the public. If site is no longer in operation, the project may still be submitted.
• An applicant may enter more than one project in each category.
• Projects submitted to other award programs are eligible.

AWARDS CEREMONY @ DWELL ON DESIGN

Dwell Magazine returns as this year's official media partner for the Restaurant Design Awards. The Awards Ceremony will take place at the AIA|LA Design Conference in conjunction with the Dwell on Design Conference on Friday, June 24, 2011 at the LA Convention Center.

JUDGING

A panel of distinguished architects, design professionals and restaurateurs will convene to review this year's entries and designate projects for recognition. Evaluations will be based on function, ambience and visual impact. The number of projects awarded will be at the discretion of the jury.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS

The Restaurant Design Awards will recognize a People's Choice Award. The Jury's top selections in each category will be listed on aialosangeles.org and the general public will be invited to vote for their favorite architecturally-designed restaurant, cafe, bar, lounge or nightclub from Monday, May 23 - Monday, June 20, 2011. The highest recipient of votes in each category will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.

NOTIFICATION

Nominees from each category will be announced Monday, May 23, 2011. Winners will be announced to the public on Friday June 24, 2010 at the AIA|LA Restaurant Design Awards Ceremony.

ENTRY FEES

$75 per entry - AIA Members
$125 per entry - Non Members

Upon receipt of your registration, AIA|LA will issue an entry number and submission form. Registrations must be received no later than 4:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011.
