FOG Design + Art Fair

Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio
February 20–May 24, 2015
This February, the Hammer Museum will present the West Coast debut of Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio, featuring the imaginative work of British designer Thomas Heatherwick and his London-based studio. Heatherwick is known for his unique design concepts ranging from products, such as a handbag for Longchamp, to large-scale structures like the new distillery for Bombay Sapphire Gin.

Alexis Rochas of SCI-Arc Presents STEREO.BOT

Stereo.Bot (Courtesy of SCI-Arc)Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) will present Alexis Rochas' installation of STEREO.BOT this Friday at the school's Library Gallery. The exhibition documents the creative process behind the Coachella Gateway Pavilion, which Rochas designed and built for the 2012 Coachella Music Festival in Indio, Calif. The freestanding structure measured 70 feet in width and 35 feet in height and featured over 18 hours of video content.

Stereo.Bot (Courtesy of SCI-ArcThe exhibition will feature dynamic architectural models, 3D mapping projections, and documentary material that follows the development of the project from inception to realization. The pavilion concept was born out of a collaborative initiative seeking to fuse architecture, art, and engineering into a unique, immersive experience. The project combines innovative 3D building systems developed by STEREO.BOT, 4D generative visuals created by Bryant Place of Sensory Sync, and state-of-the-art engineering by Bruce Danziger of Arup Los Angeles.
