A seven-member jury – consisting of representatives of Rio City Hall, the International Union of Architects, Brazil’s Architects Institute, the Rio 2016 Games Organizing Committee and the Federal Government – sifted through 60 applicants from 18 countries.

FORM Magazine is teaming up with the San Francisco chapter of Canstruction as media sponsor to host the city's first annual competition from June 22-26 at Metreon mall. Canstruction is a non-profit organization that holds yearly design competitions all over the U.S., where contestants build over-sized structures entirely out of cans. Winning designs are displayed in the city, then all component cans and foods are donated to local food banks. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank.
On August 20, the London-based architecture firm Foster + Partners launched their master plan for the development of the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. They are one of the three competitors in the West Kowloon Cultural District Conceptual Plan, and the best design will be chosen in December. The reclaimed cultural district in Hong Kong is 57 acres, and, along with the green park and Grand Avenue, it will offer seventeen new cultural venues, including an opera house, a modern art museum, an exhibition center and a 15,000-seat arena.
