BOOK: Handcrafted Modern Offers A Look Inside Your Favorite Designers' Homes

Click image to visit Hennessey + Ingalls BookstoreLeslie Williamson's book Handcrafted Modern: At Home with Midcentury Designers (Rizzoli, October 2010, $45) fulfills her desire to connect with architects and interior designers through photographing the homes they create for themselves. The 224-page book, with 250 photographs, presents captivating images of the homes of midcentury designers, such as Walter Gropius, Charles and Ray Eames, Harry Bertoia, Albert Frey, George Nakashima, Jens Risom, Wharton Esherick, Eva Zeisel, Russel Wright, Ray Kappe, Vladimir Kagan, Irving Harper, Jerry and Evelyn Ackerman and JB Blunk.

Williamson's photographs show the iconic, beautiful, and creative interiors just as they were lived in by their respective designers. Both revealing and awe-inspiring, each home is a creative and genuine example of midcentury modernism. Through showing the overall space, as well as intimate details of the design and furnishings, Williamson successfully and beautifully demonstrates an in-depth insight into the previously unseen private lives of influential and iconic designers.
