Patrick Tighe Architecture, Composer Ken Ueno and Fabricator Machineous: Out of Memory at SCI-Arc Gallery

Click for more exhibition informationLos Angeles-based architecture firm Patrick Tighe Architecture, composer Ken Ueno and fabricator Machineous have teamed up to put on Out of Memory, at the SCI-Arc Gallery, opening February 4 and running through March 13. The installation is a synesthetic experience, exploring the connection between sounds, fabric, design and technology. It is accompanied by a composition written for the occasion by Ueno.

Tighe used memory to inform the installation and experiment with a new structural materiality. Renewable polyurethane foam forms the installation's structure and acoustical barrier, and layers of closed-cell foam and open-cell foam make up the walls. The interior of the parabolic shaped installation represents Ueno's composition, and Machineous’ on site, six-axis robotic milling are derived from the sound contained within. A spectrogram of the composition serves as a source from which a mapping of frequency is translated into points and vectors.
