University of Southern California, School of Architecture hosted a Facade Conference on November 19th and 20th. Lots of academicians and practitioners presented their work.
Inaugural speech was given by Prof. Douglas Noble. The first speakers were Karen Mozes and Matt Williams from Arup who talked about Engineering Transparency. They talked about creating engineering solutions to achieve architectural transparency.
Eleanor Lee from The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory talked about integrated, high performance facade solutions.
In the second session, Paul Zajfen and Andy Labov from CO Architects started the session. They discussed about 'Adapting Rainscreen Technology to a Desert Climate'. They gave an example of Heath Sciences Education Building in Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
Daniel Benjamin, principal of Harley Ellis Devereaux briefed about 'Facades and the collective expression of circumstances.'
Daune McLeod, director at Walt Disney Imagineering Facade Pre-fabrication talked about Character Facades and the projects in Hong Kong.
In the end, Sanjeev Tankha fromFabriTec Structures and Oliver Sommerhalder from Gensler explained about designing of a high performance building envelope and Integrating building performance into the architectural design process.
